The Association of Volunteer Blood Donors of Saint-Dié-des-Vosges held its general meeting this Friday evening at the Tour de la Liberté, in the presence of the first deputy Bruno Toussaint and the departmental councilor William Mathis.

Despite a complicated context, with the health crisis, the friendly Déodatienne has managed to stay the course… and even more. Because with 2880 donors presented for 2584 collected in 2021, during the 22 collections organized during the year, it is 219 donors presented and 159 collected more than in 2020. Also in 2021, an average of 223 donors showed up every month.

For President Chantal Schmoderer, these good figures are due to the blood challenge, which was implemented for the first time last year (read our article). 89 donors registered to participate in this challenge, which resulted in 109 additional donations. For their contribution, the teams from Pôle Emploi, Destia and the “Courir à Raon” association were presented with trophies at the general assembly.

But if blood donors are present in Saint-Dié-des-Vosges and its surroundings, the national situation is critical with stocks still at their lowest. “We are looking for solutions to implement new ways of communication in order to bring in the most resistant, because only 4% of the population of age to give blood does so, while 96% of this same population believes that the blood donation is a good thing. So there is still work to be done.” underlined Chantal Schmoderer, before adding that “a blood donation is one hour of your time for 3 lives saved. »

These annual meetings were also an opportunity to award medals accompanied by diplomas to volunteers from the local association, for their commitment and dedication. They are respectively Chantal Claude, Pascal Claude, Jean-Louis Demangel, Paul Didelot, Jean-Pierre Didier, Chantal Ghizzo, Christian Godart, Jean-Paul Keller, Jacques Laurent, Elisabeth Lion and Solange Martin.
