Atlético de Madrid took three vital points from El Sadar (0-3) thanks to three blows that counteracted the energy that Osasuna exhibited during much of the duel, in which the rojiblancos asserted their effectiveness.
The fans of the Navarre team came home with all the illusion of giving Atleti a scare, a perception that soon faded. The visitors took a corner, Sergio Herrera was unable to clear the ball very well and the Portuguese João Félix picked up the rebound to make it 0-1.
Far from being discouraged by possession of the mattress ball during the first few minutes, Osasuna went up. David García headed in a Moncayola center from the left that went close to a top corner. El Sadar came up when Atlético lost control.
Simeone’s men were unable to control the situation, while the locals used the bands to start their moves. The Mozambican Reinildo played third central alongside Savic and Giménez, and was good at the starts when Carrasco lost the mark on Chimy Ávila.
The current League champions once again showed their defensive weakness, while their midfield improved their performance. The final acceleration of those from Arrasate did not find the prize and the match went to rest with everything to decide.
Lucas Torró was the main beam of Osasuna, giving his teammates constant support, balance and instructions. With the start of the second 45 minutes, Osasuna maintained control without stepping on the rival area with the regularity to which he is accustomed.
Big teams don’t need countless chances to pierce the opponent’s goal. Atlético showed it at 60 minutes. When Osasuna seemed to be starting to pick up cruising speed, Cholo’s men struck again.
Joao Félix served a long pass to Luis Suárez, who caught the defense of the Pamplona team off guard after a corner kick. The Uruguayan saw Herrera ahead and, from far away, scored the 0-2 with a left-footed shot with great precision.
After the Uruguayan’s goal, the rojillos dedicated themselves to moving the ball from side to side without much faith. For their part, the ‘rojiblancos’ awaited their opportunity, joining lines and clearing lateral crosses from an opponent who continued to try with the heart and encouragement of their fans.
Two minutes from the end, Correa scored the final 0-3 against and Atlético de Madrid won on a difficult field in which Osasuna has not managed to beat the Madrid team since 2014.
