Anti covid19 vaccination for boys and girls age group between 5 and 11 years

(CRHoy.com) .-With the start of the school year in person and in the midst of the pandemic wave due to the omicron variant, pediatric vaccination is important mayor.
Since January of this year, the authorities have guaranteed protection for minors between 5 and 11 years old; However, the vaccination process seems to be slow due to the limitation in the availability of the vaccines -which causes the injections to be applied by age group approximately every 3 weeks-; and to the little assistance in the vaccination centers where these doses are given.
At the cut of last February 14, only 6.2% of the minors to be vaccinated have completed the scheme, while 21.2% have at least the first injection.
This being the case, there is still a need to inoculate against the virus a total 492,872 minors of this age group.
For Dr. María Luis Ávila, pediatrician and infectious disease specialist at the National Children’s Hospital (HNN), the vaccine that is being applied is safe and effective because it passed the controlled clinical trials done by the pharmaceutical house.
The authorities ask parents attend vaccinations with their children, especially because with the classes they will be more exposed to the virus.
But what side effects does it have?
According to the results of Pfizer clinical studies conducted on 8 million US children under 12 years of age, the side effects of applying this type of injection are: soreness at the site, fever and possible skin rash.
In the case of miocarditis o pericarditis that could be caused by the injection, studies have shown could be caused in adolescents between the ages of 12 and 18, and could be related to high levels of testosterone.
“If you compare cases of myocarditis caused by the Sars-CoV-2 virus and those that can be attributed to the vaccine, there are more caused by the virus,” he added.
In this sense, experts point out that in the case of children the problem is not contagion, but the consequences that the infection can cause. Since the virus would leave direct and indirect consequences.
In addition to heart damage, children could develop multisystem inflammatory response syndrome, that can present 4 weeks after the acute infection is symptomatic or asymptomatic.
“Many of these patients have required intensive care or emergency medical shock room management. It is always better to prevent the disease than to suffer from it,” she noted.
Where will they vaccinate?
In the middle of the strategy ‘Reinforce: with everything against COVID-19’ the authorities of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) have enabled during this weekend a total of 22 vaccination centers where the pediatric injection will be given.
These are vaccinations in the health areas of Guácimo, Limón, Siquirres, Abangares, Bagaces, Cañas, Carrillo, La Cruz, Aguas Zarcas, Ciudad Quesada, Florencia, Guatuso, La Fortuna, Los Chiles, Pital, Santa Rosa, Pérez Zeledón , Alajuelita, Parrita and Garabito, in addition to the Los Chiles hospital where first and second doses will be given to children under 9, 10 and 11 years of age.
