Hackers hit Microsoft Teams users. They proliferate the Trojan

Hackers decided to hit the users of the popular Microsoft Teams application, which supports the work of many enterprises around the world during the pandemic. They spread malware via chat rooms.

As reported by Bleeping Computer, researchers from Avanan, which creates solutions for securing, among others, e-mail and cloud collaboration have noticed that hackers are attacking application users more and more often Microsoft Teams. They distribute files with malware via chat.

According to experts, a series of attacks began in January, and cybercriminals are distributing an executable file called “User Centric”. Its launch makes hackers gain virtually unlimited access to our computer. It is not known yet how they gain access to accounts in Microsoft Teams. Maybe earlier hackers have stolen credentials for e-mail or Microsoft 365. Very often, this type of information is hijacked through phishing, a method in which fraudsters pretend to be well-known companies and institutions.

Avanan experts believe that attacks can be effective because many Microsoft Teams users trust files received through the application. They also emphasize that the problem could be exacerbated by “Teams’ lack of default security as scanning for malicious links and files is limited”.

What to do to avoid falling victim to hackers? It is worth using comprehensive antivirus programs that scan all files for malware, and above all, use the principle of limited trust. If we receive a suspicious file, we can always contact the company’s IT department or institutions that detect cyber attacks before launching it.
