Coronavirus in the world – who can get sick again

Scientists have found that people who are not vaccinated against COVID-19 are 5 times more likely to get sick again compared to those who have been vaccinated. This is because the immunity acquired due to infection is short-lived.

As you know, many people think that they have antibodies against COVID-19 and do not need a vaccine.

According to infectious disease expert Dr. Bruce Farber of Manhasseti, New York, this belief is false.

The specialist said that people need to be vaccinated against COVID-19 every year. He noted that although the incidence rate is decreasing, the coronavirus will still continue to mutate.

Why you need to get vaccinated after you’ve had an illness

The researchers collected data on more than 149,000 patients in Israel. All of them have recovered from COVID-19. It is noted that 83,000 of them were vaccinated after recovery.

The results showed that 354 of them had contracted COVID-19 again. Meanwhile, the number of re-infected among the unvaccinated was as much as 2,168.

Therefore, the approximate rate of re-infection with coronavirus among the vaccinated is 2 per 100,000 population, and among the unvaccinated – 10 per the same number of people.

Efficacy was the same whether patients received 1 or 2 doses, the researchers said. In addition, one dose is enough to protect against re-infection. However, it is better to complete the full course of vaccinations.
