Balma. 240 blood donors at the Odyssey

240 volunteers showed up at the Odyssey on Friday for the blood drive of the Balma and Pin-Balma Blood Donor Association (ADSB). A session organized over a single day, which follows the cry of alarm pushed by the EFS (French Blood Establishment). Indeed, the pandemic, the holidays and teleworking have greatly reduced donations for two years. In fact, 10,000 daily donations are needed to meet the needs of hospitals, in particular for patients undergoing chemotherapy, suffering from anemia or victims of an accident.

So it looks like the call has been heard. “A few days ago, the collection organized in Saint-Orens-de-Gameville was sold out, as well as that of Quint-Fonsegrives, where all places were reserved”, welcomes Patrice Verlhiac, member of the ADSB office. He adds: “It would be enough to fill the stocks if everyone gave their blood 2 or 3 times a year, knowing that a man can give it up to 6 times over a year and a woman 4 times”. The ADSB plans 6 collections per year in Balma. On Friday, 3 doctors, 4 samplers and 8 volunteers supervised the session. Of the 240 donors, 205 had reserved their place on the internet.

The next ADSB collection is scheduled for Friday, April 22 in the Odyssey room, Place de la Liberation in Balma. Making appointments : mon-rdv-dondesang.efs.sante.fr
