CHICAGO (AP) — DeMar DeRozan scored 38 points and surpassed an NBA record set by Hall of Famer Wilt Chamberlain as the Chicago Bulls beat the Sacramento Kings 125-118 on Wednesday night.
DeRozan, who was 16-of-27 from the field, became the first player in league history to score 35 or more points while shooting at least 50% in seven straight games.
Chamberlain achieved the stat twice in six straight games during the 1960-1961 and 1962-1963 seasons.
The game was also the eighth straight in which DeRozan has scored at least 30 points. The streak is the longest by a Bulls player since Michael Jordan made it eight straight games in January 1996.
Coby White had a season-high 31 points and tied his career high of six 3-pointers in a single game. Nikola Vucevic had 21 points and 10 rebounds as the Bulls posted their fifth straight victory.
Chicago is a half-game ahead of Miami for first place in the Eastern Conference even though Zach LaVine sat out for the third straight time with a sore left knee.
De’Aaron Fox was Sacramento’s best offense with 33 points and nine assists. Domantas Sabonis had 22 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists in his fourth game since his transfer from Indiana.
Harrison Barnes scored 17 points, but the Kings suffered their second straight loss after two straight wins.
