As part of a new study, the tracking behavior of various apps was examined.
Many applications collect user data to make money. In the category of social media apps, TikTok and YouTube have the most potential trackers installed. 14 different types of trackers were discovered in each case.
Spy industry is powerful
The average in the category is 6 trackers. Facebook, Snapchat, Messenger and WhatsApp only use one tracker here. Significantly more is tracked in other categories.
Lots of potential trackers built into apps
34 potential trackers were discovered in the CNN News app. The average in the news category is 22. In the music apps, iHeart Radio achieved the dubious “high score” with 56 trackers.
Particularly annoying: Third-party tracking also takes place if users have rejected tracking in an app’s settings. “Users of the platforms cannot currently see what data is shared with third-party networks or how their data is used.”
The passage of TikTok’s data protection guidelines, which allows the transfer of users’ personal data to the Chinese parent company, was also criticized. While TikTok, on the other hand, keeps emphasizing to protect sensitive user data.
