Region welcomes the eight-point emergency program presented / Minister of Transport wants 15-minute intervals in the long term.
(BZ). A new future commission has started work on the further development of the Breisgau S-Bahn. The time horizon for the considerations should go up to 2040. With an eight-point immediate program, first and short-term steps were announced that should lead to an improvement in the situation on the East-West axis of the Breisgau S-Bahn. (The BZ reported). The reactions to it are positive.
Minister of transport
“Our common goal must be to be able to set the clock according to the S-Bahn. To do this, we will now make decisions quickly and unbureaucratically. It is important to win back the trust that passengers have lost and to significantly improve the quality of the service. The connections must be reliable work,” says Transport Minister Winfried Hermann. As long as the S-Bahn does not get out of step due to incidents, it is on the right track. It is important to bundle and coordinate the future transport projects in the region. Both the reactivation of cross-border traffic to Colmar and the expansion of the Rhine Valley Railway must be accompanied – especially since the coalition agreement in the core area around Freiburg provides for a 15-minute cycle in the future. “This will not be possible without further infrastructure expansion,” says Hermann. The next step is the “Breisgau-S-Bahn 2030/2040” expansion step, which should create the necessary conditions for this, with the exception of the Rheintalbahn, which will not have experienced any continuous relief by then. The partners have decided to jointly describe this next major expansion step and its specific goals in the coming months.
Mayor of Freiburg
“The immediate program for the east-west axis of the Breisgau S-Bahn is important in order to win back the trust of passengers and increase demand,” says Freiburg’s Mayor Martin Horn. From a Freiburg perspective, he very much welcomes the fact that all those involved in the Breisgau S-Bahn Future Commission 2030/2040 want to work together to advance the further expansion of rail transport in the region.
District Administrator Dorothea Störr-Ritter
“The eight-point program holds hope for local rail transport, especially in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district. I am counting on all those responsible to keep their promises day after day and thus the sorely missed reliability of the S-Bahn will be a thing of the past.” District Administrator Dorothea Störr-Ritter. The district will participate in further sustainable measures in the future commission. “This merger of all players offers the opportunity to advance stage by stage towards an environmentally friendly rail connection from the Black Forest to the Vosges,” says Störr-Ritter.
Landrat Hanno Hurth
“The agreed measures form a good basis for a sustainable stabilization of operations and will hopefully help passengers to be able to rely more on the S-Bahn to get to their destinations in the future,” says Hanno Hurth, District Administrator of the Emmendingen district .
