This year it is a full ten years since Kelly Turner (43) first brought her daughter Olivia to the hospital because Olivia – according to her – was constipated.
At the first doctor’s visit, the doctor said that the girl seemed completely healthy.
According to local newspapers The Denver Post, Olivia was in and out of the hospital since she was two years old. The mother and children therefore moved closer to the hospital located in the Denver area.

Until 2017, a number of surgeries were performed on the girl, until Olivia died at Denver Hospice Care the same year.
Laid dead for two years
According to CBS Denver, investigators say several doctors at the hospital reported to their bosses that they suspected the girl was being abused.
The alerts never reached the child welfare service.
Autopsy
In August 2017, Turner asked doctors to stop all medical treatment and let their daughter die.
According to CBS Denver an autopsy was performed after Olivia’s death.
The forensic pathologist concluded that she had chronic intestinal failure, autism and seizure disorders.
After Olivia’s death, Turner took her second daughter to the same hospital with leg pain, claiming she had cancer.
Then the doctors sounded the alarm.
Authorities were notified, and police launched an investigation into Olivia’s death. But it was not until 2019 that Turner was arrested and charged with child abuse.
Malnourished
It is not determined exactly what took the life of the girl, but according to the verdict, she had only received 30 percent of the nutrition she needed.
Last month, Turner pleaded guilty, reports CBS Denver.
She has now been sentenced to 16 years in prison for abusing her daughter, Olivia Grant, until her death.
Waited ten years before going to the doctor
Turner has also been convicted of fraud and theft after lying about the girl’s health.
Among other things, she raised five million kroner from the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which is an organization in the United States that helps fulfill the wishes of children with critical illness.
The judge ruled that Turner should not have the opportunity to make money on her daughter’s death, thus she can not get money for, for example, movies or books about the girl.
– She is not allowed to further benefit financially from this case, the judge stated in court according to CBS Denver.
Mother and stepdaughter were diagnosed with the same horror
Olivia’s sister has been physically healthy since she was separated from her mother.
Diagnose
Psychiatrists told CBS Denver that the mother’s behavior appears to be “Munchausen syndrome by proxy”.
This is the consequence Lommelegen is a disorder in which parents or caregivers seek attention from the disease to their children or relatives, and sometimes cause them harm.

People with Münchausen’s syndrome contact health professionals or other support agencies for assessment, treatment and care on false premises.
In the United States, around 600 to 1200 are diagnosed with this disorder, every single year.
