Whoa! Disney Will Make Fairy Tales Feel Real Through the Metaverse

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Disney is getting serious about working on the Metaverse. Most recently, the company has appointed the lead for its Metaverse strategy, Mike White.

White has worked with the company for more than 10 years and was tasked with overseeing a team that included senior leaders. He will be Disney’s senior vice president for Next Generation Storytelling and Consumer Experiences.

The BBC reported that chief executive Bob Chapek wrote in a memo to staff that the Metaverse was the ‘next frontier of great storytelling’ to explore. He described the virtual world as the perfect place to pursue the strategic pillars of story excellence, innovation and audience focus.

“Teams across the company are exploring this new canvas and I’m blown away by what I’ve seen,” Chapek said.

In his new role, White will allocate resources, explore partnerships and promote knowledge sharing about the Metaverse.

In addition, White will also lead the team with skills. This includes technology, strategy, and storytelling.

According to Disney, the Metaverse was seen as the next evolution of the storytelling tradition. Chapek said his company will create a new paradigm for how audiences can experience and engage with Disney stories.

“Today we have the opportunity to connect that universe and create an entirely new paradigm for how audiences experience and engage with our stories,” he explained.

For information, Metaverse is an online world where people can move and connect with each other in a virtual environment. Usually to get in there using a device like a VR headset.

Before Disney, Facebook or what is now called Meta was one of the companies known to focus on the Metaverse.
