Several people died as a result of the sinking of a Spanish fishing vessel off the coast of Canada. This was announced by ABC, quoted by BGNES, referring to the authorities of the Autonomous Region of Galicia.
According to her information, the ship “Villa de Pitanxo” sank in the waters off the island of Newfoundland.
There were 22 sailors on board – 12 Spaniards, two Ghanaians and Peruvians. It is also reported that some crew members have already been rescued. The reasons for the accident have not been specified yet.
At a press conference, Spanish government spokesman Isabel Rodriguez confirmed the details of the shipwreck. She said the kingdom’s authorities were monitoring the search and rescue operation:
“I can confirm that three crew members have been rescued, but I cannot add any other information,” Rodriguez said.
