Jakarta –
A video has gone viral on social media asking for the purchase of PLN electricity tokens for Rp. 50,000, but what they get at the meter is 36.00, which according to the buyer does not match the price of the token. The PLN then spoke up.
PLN Executive Vice President Corporate Communications and CSR Agung Murdifi explained that buying electricity tokens is not the same as buying credit for cell phones. It should be understood, the numbers contained in the kWh meter are not in rupiah, but kWh (kilowatt hour).
Unlike buying cellular phone credit, charging PLN prepaid electricity tokens is converted into kilowatt hours (kWh) according to the applicable electricity tariff, not in rupiah. This is also often a question of how much kWh is obtained from the nominal rupiah paid by the customer.
“It should be understood that the number in the kwh meter is not rupiah, but kWh. Customers can also calculate for themselves how many kWh they get for purchasing prepaid tokens,” Agung explained in his statement, written Tuesday (15/2/2022).
Then how?
The first step is to know the benchmark electricity rate per kWh. For example, electricity tariffs for 13 non-subsidized customers. Until February 2022, the benchmark electricity rates for non-subsidized customers are:
1. RI 900 VA (RTM) Rp. 1.352/kwh
2. RI 1,300 VA Rp. 1,444/kwh
3. RI 2,200 VA Rp. 1,444/kwh
4. R2 3.500-5.500 VA Rp. 1,444 / kwh
5. R3 6,600 VA and above Rp. 1,444/kwh
6. B2 6.600-200 KVA Rp. 1,444 / kwh
7. B3 above 200 KVA Rp. 1.035/kwh
8. I3 TM above 200 KVA – 30.000 KVA Rp. Rp. 1.035/kwh
9. I4 TT 30 MVA and above Rp.996/kwh
10. P1 6,600 VA -200 KVA Rp. 1,444 / kwh
11. P2 above 200 KVA Rp. 1.035/kwh
12. P3/TR Rp. 1.444/kwh
13. L/TR/TM Rp. 1.644/kwh
In addition to referring to electricity rates, there are other aspects that become the basic components of the calculation, namely the street lighting tax (PPJ) whose amount varies and is regulated by each local government, which is between 3% to 10%.
The following is an example of the calculation simulation:
Customers want to buy electricity pulses with a value of Rp. 50,000 in Jakarta with 1,300 VA power consumption. If PPJ Jakarta is 3 percent, then the calculation is as follows:
Token price: IDR 50,000,-
PPJ 3 percent: IDR 1,500,-
Basic electricity tariff: IDR 1,444.70,-
The amount of tokens obtained:
(Rp 50,000 – Rp 1,500)/Rp 1,444.70,- = 33.57 kWh
So, with the purchase of IDR 50,000 tokens for the non-subsidized 1,300 VA customer group in Jakarta, the power obtained is 33.58 kWh.
“Besides the nominal rupiah for electricity purchases, there is also a bank admin fee for each transaction. Especially for transactions buying prepaid electricity tokens above Rp. 5,000,000, there is an additional stamp fee of Rp. 10,000,” explained Agung.
