The most sporty Škoda Fabia today will bear the traditional name Monte Carlo. The main change is represented by the visual accessories of the body and interior, on the contrary, the technology corresponds to the standard design of the smallest model with a winged arrow. The highlight is the supercharged four-cylinder petrol engine with an output of 110 kW.
The recipe for the Monte Carlo version has been the same since 2011, when the history of modern Škoda cars with this designation started. At the heart of it all are black body accessories in the form of a radiator grille frame, front spoiler, mirror covers, sill rails and rear diffuser. The roof, the inscription “Škoda” on the trunk lid and especially the cast wheels also have a black lacquer. The basic equipment includes 16-inch rims with removable aerodynamic covers, but there are also diameters of 17 or 18 inches among the surcharges. In addition, the car has a specific design of both bumpers, plaques with the words “Monte Carlo” and standard full LED headlights.
The black color also dominates the interior, although its monotony there is a bit shattered by red details on the seats, dashboard or door handles. By the way, the seats are sporty with an integrated headrest, while the three-spoke steering wheel with black thread stitching is also different from the standard model. There are also details in the cabin that are supposed to evoke the appearance of carbon fibers. The center panel is dominated by an eight-inch multimedia system screen interchangeable with 9.2-inch navigation.
Technically, the car has not undergone many changes: among the surcharges there is a 15 mm lowered chassis and the range of engines has shrunk a bit. Fabia Monte Carlo will not offer a basic atmospheric three-cylinder at all, which means that the entrance gate to the offer is a 70kW supercharged liter three-cylinder TSI with a five-speed manual transmission. With the more powerful version of the same engine with 81 kW, the applicant can choose between a six-speed manual or a seven-speed two-clutch automatic transmission, with the top four-cylinder 1.5 TSI with 110 kW, automatic shifting is the only option.
By the way, in the strongest version, Škoda reports an acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in just eight seconds and a top speed of 225 km / h. The last Fabia RS, belonging to the second generation of a small car, had a top speed of 224 km / h with 132kW fourteen TSI and accelerated to 100 km / h in 7.3 seconds. Both cars are not so far apart, at least on paper.
The Czech carmaker did not announce in a press release when the most sporty version of the fourth Fabia will go on sale. However, the prices and configurator should be revealed in the coming days. The prices of the Scaly and Kamiqu Monte Carlo can tell you how much the small hatchback will be sold for. The first named model is 37 thousand crowns more expensive with the same engine than the Style equipment, the small SUV has a surcharge of even 48 thousand crowns. Theoretically, the cheapest Fabia Monte Carlo could be somewhere between 425 and 440 thousand crowns (Style equipment with a 1.0 TSI / 70 kW engine starts at 389,900 crowns).
Let us recall that the designation Monte Carlo refers to the famous rally, which the Czech carmaker first participated in 1912. It left an indelible mark in the city-state in 1936, when Popular placed second in the 1500 cm3 category. The 70-piece Škoda Popular Monte Carlo series was created in honor of this type. The iconic designation for the sportier Škoda was then renewed in Mladá Boleslav in 2011 by the second generation Fabia. It was followed by the third Fabia, Citigo, Yeti, Rapid, Rapid Spaceback and most recently Scala and Kamiq Monte Carlo.
