According to Kaspars Zaviļeiskis, the representative of the festival organizers, “Riga Jazz Stage 2022” will take place for the 13th time and will bring together vocalists and drummers from different countries. A prominent international jury will also arrive in Riga, making “Riga Jazz Stage” a jazz festival marked on the world map of this genre, Zaviļeiskis points out.
The special guest will be Gramy Award nominee, Thelonious Monk winner, composer, singer and drummer James Jesson Ross (pictured), who will be on the jury, give a master class and perform at a concert on April 9th at the awards ceremony.
A competition concert with 26 young talents will take place on April 7. A total of 13 countries’ jazz schools will be represented at Riga Jazz Stage, as artists from Estonia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Poland, Slovakia, Denmark, Germany, Belgium, Italy, the United Kingdom, Turkey and the United States will arrive in Riga, as well as Latvian vocalists and drummers.
On April 8, the final of the competition will take place, where the top 12 candidates selected by the jury will perform, and on April 9, jameson Ross will showcase his vocal and drumming skills in one concert. for it teaches you how to create and manifest yourself. “

The contestants will be accompanied by the “Riga Jazz Quartet”, with pianist Kristaps Vanadziņš, guitarist Rihards Goba, bassist Jānis Rubiks and drummer Miķelis Vīte.
“The level of this year’s competition will be very high, as several participants who have already won prestigious competitions will take part in it,” says Māris Briežkalns. “This is still the largest jazz artist competition in the Baltic States and its name has been heard all over the world of jazz.
