In view of the falling number of corona cases, calls for easing are becoming louder. Meanwhile, the RKI is looking further into the future.

+++ 1.20 p.m.: A leaked draft resolution from the Corona summit, which is to take place on Wednesday (February 16, 2022), already mentions concrete steps away from the pandemic measures. In view of the falling number of corona cases (see first report), there are also increasing numbers of politicians calling for the relaxation of the corona measures. According to the RKI, however, the end of the pandemic has not yet been reached. Instead, another wave is “firmly” to be expected.

This assessment comes from an internal management report of the institute, which the news site Welt published. It states that endemic, i.e. the balance between population immunity and transmissibility of the virus, has not yet been reached. Rather, we are in a “transitional phase”, with the next corona wave expected in autumn 2022.

Corona: Opponents of measures are trying to penetrate to Kretschmann’s private house

+++ 12.30 p.m.: Opponents of the Corona measures tried to break into Winfried Kretschmann’s house. The incident occurred during an unregistered procession of critics of the measures on Sunday evening (February 13, 2022), as the police headquarters in Ravensburg confirmed when asked. The 60 participants wanted to bypass a road blockade that led to the private home of the Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg.

The police prevented the Corona demonstrators from advancing and informed Winfried Kretschmann’s wife, who came home at the same time. The Green politician himself was not there. The incident is reminiscent of other attempts by opponents of the measures to intimidate politicians. In December last year, for example, a torchlight march took place in front of the home of the Saxon SPD Minister of Health, Petra Köpping.

Opponents of the Corona measures also gathered in front of Winfried Kretschmann’s house. (archive image)

Corona case numbers: RKI reports a decrease in incidence – and issues a warning

First report from February 14, 2022, 11:13 a.m.: Frankfurt – The nationwide seven-day incidence has fallen for the second day in a row. However, the meaningfulness of the data is currently limited. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the value of new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week on Monday morning (February 14, 2022) at 1459.8. On Sunday, the corona value had fallen for the first time since the end of December and was 1466.5. A week ago, the nationwide incidence was 1426.0 (previous month: 470.6).

It is difficult to judge whether this really means a turnaround in the infection process in Germany. It could also be that the decline in incidence does not reflect the actual occurrence of infection, but is the result of an overloaded reporting and testing system. In addition, it could play a role that some people do not have their positive self-test or rapid test clarified with a PCR test. They will then not appear in the statistics.

The health authorities in Germany reported 76,465 new corona infections to the RKI within one day. This is evident from numbers that reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 5 a.m. A week ago there were 95,267 infections. The RKI has counted 12,421,126 infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections go undetected.

Corona case numbers in Germany RKI reports 42 deaths

According to the new information, 42 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours. A week ago there were 49 deaths. The number of people who died from or involved a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 119,977. The RKI gave the number of recovered people on Monday as 8,838,800.

Despite the high number of corona cases, politicians kept talking about easing before the federal-state summit on Wednesday (February 16, 2022): Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP), Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) and Economics Minister Robert Habeck ( green).

The number of corona-infected patients who came to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days was 6.46 according to the RKI on Friday (Thursday: 6.23). These may also include people with a positive corona test who have another main illness. No data on hospital admissions will be published at the weekend. (jey/vbu/dpa)
