Casting controversy
On the casting side, we already know that it will notably be composed of Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Maxim Baldry, Nazanin Boniadi, Charles Edwards, Trystan Gravelle, Sir Lenny Henry, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Lloyd Owen, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers, Leon Wadham, Benjamin Walker, Daniel Weyman and Sara Zwangobani.
Last week, when unveiling the first names, Internet fans of The Lord of the Rings were indignant to see actresses and actors who are not white embody characters like Elves. Faced with the controversy, Lindsey Weber, executive producer of the series, declared in “Vanity Fair”: “It just seems natural that an adaptation of Tolkien also reflects the world as it is (…) Tolkien is for everyone. His stories tell how his fictional races never do their best work except when they break through the isolationism of their own cultures, and work together.
