Van Wijk after VAR phase in Zulte Waregem-Anderlecht: “It really has to stop” | Extra Time

Last weekend Anderlecht recorded an important 1-2 victory on the field of Zulte Waregem. The opening goal After just under 20 minutes of football, attacker Christian Kouame gave the Purple & White the lead, after which a minute-long discussion followed. In the end, the goal was approved.

“The way the VAR currently functions is a thorn in everyone’s eye,” Dennis van Wijk said to Extra Time. “I couldn’t resist bringing this phase in again.”

“It all took such a long time that at a certain moment balls were even thrown on the field so that the players could warm up for a while.”

“In recent weeks we have seen Al-Tamari’s goal in OH Leuven-Cercle and Standard’s winning goal against Cercle Brugge. It really has to stop now.”

“Now there was a response from Kompany and that was apparently the signal to take action”, Van Wijk continues. “I am pleased that Kompany has responded and that action will finally be taken.”

Filip Joos also commented on the discussion: “It has to be right for me. The software apparently already takes a lot of time and apparently sometimes lets people down. That does not alter the fact that sometimes it indeed takes far too long. .”
