Cerrito celebrated his first victory in the 2022 Apertura, beating Boston River just 1:0 at the Juan Antonio Lavalleja Stadium in Trinidad. With an early goal from Facundo Rodríguez, the auriverde took the lead and then withstood the onslaught of the rival, mainly in the second half, when Kevin Larrea ended up becoming the great figure on the field. Adrián Fernández’s team returns to the capital with three vital points to regain confidence and ground in the table.
In the first half, Cerrito managed to break parity after 9 minutes of play. The long pass in depth, the ball that Facundo Rodríguez won and fought to leave the mark of Leonard Costa and Maximiliano Villa along the way and define just before Santiago Silva’s goal closed, as they testified. The goal came in handy for Fernández’s team, to stand up better on the pitch and play more calmly.
Boston River improved and pressed more in the complement, in which it generated half a dozen clear goal plays, but, due to poor aim in some, or the great interventions of Kevin Larrea in others, it could not reach the long-awaited equalizer. Cerrito, as the minutes passed, practically dedicated himself to defending himself. And he fought every ball tooth and nail. The result? He ended up celebrating -no less- his first win in the Apertura.
