Residents of Pendem Wetan Hamlet, Suruh Village, Suwondo said there were dozens of residents infected with dengue. Two children under five were even known to have died from DHF.

“There are already two children under five who died of dengue. One in Ngemplak Hamlet and one in Pakis Hamlet. In the hamlet of Pendem Wetan itself, there are some who have been affected,” he said when talking to Solopos.com, Sunday (13/2/2022).

The increasing number of dengue cases has forced residents to take preventive measures with the mosquito nest eradication movement (PSN). In addition, fogging or fumigation targets ditches, as well as residents’ yards. He said dengue cases had increased in the past month.

“We don’t want any more victims to die from dengue fever,” he said.

The head of the Kebakkramat II Public Health Center, Patria Bayu, said that Suruh Village had a DHF endemic status because the case findings were quite high. Seven residents are still being treated at the hospital, while previously two children under five died of dengue fever. DHF cases increase with the arrival of the rainy season.

“These two days [Sabtu-Minggu] we do fogging in the village of Suruh. Tell them to be endemic for DHF because the cases are high,” he said.

He appealed to the public to be aware of dengue fever, in addition to the corona virus. The most effective way to prevent dengue is to eradicate mosquito nests and their larvae. Fogging only kills adult mosquitoes, not larvae. Meanwhile, the eradication of mosquito larvae is still carried out through the PSN movement. But so far, people already have a mindset that if there is a case of DHF, fogging or fumigation must be carried out.

“The important thing is that people must behave in a clean and healthy life, especially the environment in which they live,” he said.

He said dengue cases are expected to continue to increase if people ignore environmental hygiene. The rainy season often causes puddles of water which then become a breeding ground for dengue mosquitoes. He said the low awareness of citizens in maintaining clean and healthy living behavior (PHBS) was one of the triggering factors for dengue cases.

Various preventive measures were taken to suppress the increase in dengue cases. One of the officers carried out countermeasures with a focus on infected areas. Then the provision of abate logistics and insecticides, as well as monitoring larvae by monitoring cadres in high-risk villages.
