Kai Havertz become a goal scorer that determines success Chelsea won the Club World Cup. The man from Germany felt an extraordinary sensation.
Chelsea beat Palmeiras 2-1 in the final which took place at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi. The duel, which was completed on Sunday (13/2/2022) early in the morning, lasted until 2×15 minutes of extra time.
The Blues took the lead in the 55th minute through Romelu Lukaku. Palmeiras then equalized in the 64th minute through Raphael Veiga’s penalty.
Chelsea’s winning goal came in the 117th minute or three minutes before reaching a high five. Kai Havertz managed to tear the Brazilian representative’s goal through the execution of a penalty.
“It’s amazing. After the European champions, we are now world champions. Sounds better. I was nervous (taking the penalty), I have to be honest. It was an important penalty. It feels crazy. I’m very happy,” Havertz told Channel 4.
Jorginho used to be Chelsea’s main executor, but manager Thomas Tuchel did not play him. Then there was also Lukaku who could have taken the kick, but was withdrawn in the 76th minute.
“I was the third penalty taker, but I was the only one left on the pitch,” he said.
“My team-mates gave me confidence. I always dreamed of this as a child. It’s a great feeling for me,” Havertz confirmed.
This is the first Club World Cup title for Chelsea. The Blues had previously appeared in the final in 2012, but lost to Corinthians.
