Brockmann has to pay, but his Dresdner Eislöwen win: 3:2 in Freiburg

Freiburg/Dresden. It worked on the fourth attempt: The Dresdner Eislöwen finally knocked over the buck in the DEL 2 after three defeats against the Freiburg wolves and won 3:2 in front of 1215 spectators in the Breisgau (2:0, 0:1, 1: 1) celebrated. “We knew it was going to be difficult. We played a very good game and are happy with the three points,” said a satisfied Andreas Brockmann. Now there is a top duel against the Löwen Frankfurt on Sunday in Dresden (5 p.m.).

Even before the game in Breisgau, the protagonists of Wednesday’s scandal faced the consequences of the league. Wolves player Scott Allen, who received a match penalty after a bad foul, has to serve a two-game ban. But his coach, ex-Dresden Robert Hoffmann, was also suspended for two games plus a fine after he attacked Ice Lion coach Andreas Brockmann. Brockmann, on the other hand, only has to pay a fine. In the justification of the DEL2 it says: “The league company punishes the provocative battle of words, triggered by Brockmann, as well as the active and physical assault by Hoffmann. The coaches have a role model function towards their own team and the public as well as a special function and responsibility in the context of game operations. Both coaches failed to fulfill this role.” As a result, the Wolves had to do without their boss, who was represented by assistant Pyry Eskola and sports director Peter Salmik.

The Eislöwen received support from the Düsseldorf cooperation partner, who sent defender Luca Zitterbart and attacker Mike Fischer. The Elbestadt gave full throttle from the start. After a sweet pass from Arturs Kruminsch, Philipp Kuhnekath was able to give the guests a 1-0 lead in the second minute. As on Wednesday, an intense, fast game developed with chances for both sides. In the 17th minute it was Kruminsch himself who sank the puck on the power play to make it 2-0.

A little later there was a tricky situation on the other side, but Simon Dammer and Christoph Kiefersauer failed from close range. That’s how it went into the break with a two-goal lead. When Timo Walther had to go into the cool box at the beginning of the third period, Simon Danner, outnumbered, took the chance to make it 1-2 after a shot from Nick Pageau’s blue line (25′).

Both teams continued to exchange heated blows, not a centimeter was revealed. In the final section, Christoph Kiefersauer managed to equalize 2:2 after just four minutes. Shortly afterwards, the Ice Lions had a shock, because after a check by Nick Pageau, Timo Walther stayed on the ice and then had to leave with a suspected hand injury. Both teams continued to fight for every puck. And 23-year-old Luca Zitterbart of all people scored the 3-2 winning goal on his first appearance for the Elbestadt team (48th). After that, the home side ran in vain, Janick Schwandernner held on to the victory.
