Canada could actually make it easier for the quarter-finals by beating the United States in this meeting, which is scheduled to take place Friday evening at 11:10 p.m. (Quebec time).
Having savored the victory against Germany as a curtain raiser, Canada is part of Group A, which is completed by China. There is no doubt that Claude Julien’s squad hopes to conclude the preliminary round with a perfect record in order to go directly to the quarters against a potentially less formidable opponent.
According to the formula in place, four formations will be qualified directly for the quarters, that is to say the winners of each of the three groups, then the “best second”.
Sean Farrell to watch
Facing the Americans, Canada will have to be particularly wary of young Sean Farrell, a 20-year-old prospect who was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in 2020. In an 8-0 victory against the Chinese team, Farrell led his team, Thursday, with three goals and two assists.
After the game against the United States, the Canadian team will face China on Sunday.
