Definition of cell explained as an organic micro unit containing genetic material, namely the material that determines the characteristics of living things, then the characteristics of living things can be passed on to their offspring. Every cell, at some stage in its life, contains DNA as heritable material and directs the activity of that cell.

Understanding Cells According to Experts
1. Matthias Jacob Schleiden (1838) and Theodor Schwann (1839)
After conducting a series of studies on animals, the body and humans, German scientists concluded that every living thing is composed of components of tissues called cells.
2. Robert Hooke (1635 – 1703)
While conducting research on an object under a simple microscope, this British scientist discovered small spaces separated by a wall. Next, he named these spaces as “cells”.
3. Rudolf Virchow (1885)
Virchow broke the cell theory of Jacob Schleiden and Theodore Schwan, that all cells originate from cells that existed first. Virchow discovered that the cell is the center of growth and development of the living body.
Type and Example Cells On Living Beings
“Cells” are divided into two namely Prokaryotic (without a nuclear membrane, for example bacteria) and Eukaryotic (having a nuclear membrane, for example cells in animals).
1. Eukaryotic Cell
Eukaryotic cells are cells that already have a nucleus. This is evidenced by the wrapped DNA and RNA with the nuclear membrane, so that they are separated from other cell organelles. For example, in plant, animal and human tissue cells. In humans and animals there are nerve cells, brain tissue cells, red blood cells, white blood cells and many more.
2. Prokaryotic Cells
Prokaryotic cells are cells that do not have a nuclear membrane, so the genetic material in them has not been separated from other cell parts. Examples of organisms that have prokaryotic cells are Archaebacteria, Eubacteria, and Cyanobacteria. In addition to the cell nucleus, prokaryotic cells have a cell wall, plasma membrane, ribosomes, plasmids, and locomotion organelles.
