The duel was a replay of the 2018 semi-final match in Pyongyang, in which the Canadians surprisingly lost 3: 4 and thus had something to repay the Germans. Jokerit Helsinki defender Alex Grant got into the opponent with vigor, in the 8th minute he got to the puck in the space between the circles and shot everything that stood in his way. The North Americans did not dominate the match, but uncompromisingly punished the opponent’s mistakes. In the 10th minute, the Germans left Ben Street completely uncovered at the throw-in point, and Munich’s striker did not hesitate against players from his employer’s country. Only 43 seconds passed and in front of the goal he found himself free to change Servette Geneva striker Daniel Winnik, who took advantage of Cracknell’s ideal pass.

After the change of sides, the Germans played actively and tried to dramatize the duel. Their efforts paid off in the 31st minute, when Pföderl caught the opponent’s pass and Tobias Rieder from the Swedish Växjö reduced. The boom of the European team was slowed down by a Canadian power play, which was used in the 33rd minute by the defender of Zurich Maxim Noreau. Kazane striker Jordan Weal closed the score in the 52nd minute.
