The Universal record label bought the copyrights for the entire catalog of Sting’s songs. The deal includes all the songs and records of his solo career, but also all the songs and records recorded with The Police, the band of which Sting was co-founder, frontman and bassist between 1978 and 1983.
Universal did not disclose the price of the deal.
Sting is not the first famous singer to make this choice. In recent years, several great singers and many bands have done the same, for example Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Fleetwood Mac lead singer Stevie Nicks, Blondie, Killers, Imagine Dragons, Barry Manilow, Chrissie Hynde of Pretenders and Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics, among others.
