Mosel. The Philippe-Fernsner scrabble tournament inaugurated in Theding

On Sunday, Theding’s sociocultural hotbed hosted a scrabble tournament, a three-part tournament. About forty scrabblers came from the nearby region, but also from Metz, Nancy and Thionville. They wanted to participate in a meeting that will now find its place in the calendar. The tribute to a player who died last year, Philip Fernsner , a member of Theding scrabble club, who has left his mark on the life of this club, but also on all the people he has rubbed shoulders with in the world of scrabble.

Known from everywhere

The president of the Thédingeois club, Fabienne Albrecht, opted for this form of posthumous tribute. “Philippe was a very active person at club level and had been a part of it for more than 15 years. We could count on him. Always present, he never said no when his skills were needed. He was known everywhere for his great kindness and his qualities as a player.  »

On the occasion of this first Philippe-Fernsner tournament, many players came. “I was pleasantly surprised to see so many people. Philippe was known everywhere,” says Fabienne Albrecht. In her welcoming speech, she read a letter from Philippe’s mother. “She could not be present, but was wholeheartedly with us.  »

A pillar of the club

The president of the club also returned to the man no one will forget: “A whole character. Always listening. One of the driving pillars of our club. Scrabble was his passion. He was proud to share it. Not to mention his favorite phrase ’It’s not bad but you can do even better, try again.’’  »

Still, Thedingian scrabblers will. Thanks to the support of the municipality, the club intends to perpetuate the Philippe-Fernsner tournament. “He marked our lives. It is up to us to do everything to perpetuate the memory of a generous man with a big heart,” Fabienne Albrecht concluded.
