Who is broadcasting the Bundesliga games live on TV and in the live stream on Sunday? The TV rights for the 2021/22 season at a glance: what football fans need to be prepared for now.
Munich – The 59th Bundesliga season promises to be exciting because many clubs changed head coaches in the summer. Julian Nagelsmann replaced successful coach Hansi Flick (now national coach) at the reigning German champions FC Bayern Munich. RB Leipzig had to act and filled the vacant position with the American Jesse Marsch from Red Bull Salzburg. In December 2021, however, he was released and replaced by Domenico Tedesco.
There is also a new man on the sidelines at DFB Cup winners Borussia Dortmund. Marco Rose succeeded Edin Terzic, who now works as Technical Director at BVB. Rose’s ex-club Borussia Mönchengladbach also used the league competition: the foals lured Adi Hütter from Eintracht Frankfurt to Borussia Park.
But the coaching carousel kept turning: Eintracht was able to free Oliver Glasner from VfL Wolfsburg, while the wolves signed ex-Bayern professional Mark van Bommel (until October 2021, successor: Florian Kohfeldt). Two other teams decided to change coaching positions: Bayer 04 Leverkusen (Gerardo Seoane from BSC Young Boys) and 1. FC Köln (Steffen Baumgart from SC Paderborn 07). This means that eight of the 18 first division clubs have a new coach, including the top six from last season.
In contrast, these Bundesliga clubs rely on continuity in the coaching position:
- 1. FC Union Berlin: Urs Fischer
- 1. FSV Mainz 05: Bo Svensson
- Arminia Bielefeld: Frank Kramer
- FC Augsburg: Markus Weinzierl
- Hertha BSC: Pál Dárdai (bis November 2021, Nachfolger: Tayfun Korkut)
- Sc freiburg: Christian Streich
- SpVgg Greuther Furth: Stefan Leitl
- TSG 1899 Hoffenheim: Sebastian Hoeness
- VfB Stuttgart: Pellegrino Matarazzo
- VfL Bochum: Thomas Rice
Bundesliga on TV and live stream: Hardly any games on free TV
As usual, the 2021/2022 season will have 34 match days. Nine games take place on each match day, which can be seen live on TV and in live streams in Germany – but most of them are only available from paid providers. Only the Bundesliga opening game, a match on the last day before the winter break, the start of the second half of the season and the relegation games are shown on free TV.
The game is played on the individual match days on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays – with a few exceptions: 4th matchday (games only on Saturday and Sunday), 16th matchday (English week), 30th matchday (English week), 32nd matchday (games only on Friday and Saturday). On the last day of the game, all nine duels will be kicked off at the same time on Saturday afternoon.
Bundesliga live on TV and in live stream: Who is broadcasting the games on Sunday?
But which broadcasters actually show the Bundesliga games live on TV and in the live stream? Something has happened again this year in terms of TV rights. While everything remained the same for the transmissions on Friday (DAZN) and Saturday (Sky), football fans will have to switch to a different channel on Sundays in the future.
In the past few seasons, the Bundesliga matches were broadcast on the pay-TV channel Sky on Sundays. This is no longer the case. From the 2021/22 season, the online streaming service DAZN has secured the games on Sunday in addition to the Friday games.
