On Thursday, the Minister had a meeting with President Egils Levits. During the meeting, the issues of the current testing policy in educational institutions and the difficulties related to it were discussed. The Minister pointed out that the incidence in educational institutions is not as high as the number of students sent for distance learning due to the status of a contact person.
Muižniece also pointed out that next week the Operational Management Group (OVG) will work with experts to develop a solution for returning children who are actually healthy, but are forced to study remotely due to their contact status.
“By reviewing the conditions for applying the status of a contact person and determining that, for example, those who are close to the patient and not at the end of the second class or gym will be recognized as such, the required number of tests will also change,” Muižniece told LETA.
She also found that the OVG had been tasked with finding out if there was another possible condition for the entire class to be quarantined after contact with one Covid-19 patient. As an example, she cited the practice in Belgium, where a class quarantines 25% of students.
