continental.co.id, TARAKAN – The Tarakan City Health Office noted an increase in the number of cases of Dengue Fever (DHF) compared to 2021. The reason is, this has started to be seen in early 2022.
Sub Coordinator of Infectious Disease Prevention and Control of the Tarakan Health Office, Bahriyah Tul Ulum, S.Si, said that in January last year, dengue cases had reached 48 people.

“There is an increase in cases compared to before. This DHF trend will continue to rise until April to May,” he said when confirmed by Benuanta, Wednesday (2/2/2022).
The 48 cases are currently being treated. He continued, DHF usually attacks school-age children, including infants, because that age is a vulnerable age for dengue fever, unlike adults.
“There are a lot of cases, so when there is a case, it’s not fogging. It’s just a precaution just like 3M plus. But if the results of the epidemiological investigation in the field show that there is a transmission, then we will do fogging,” explained the woman who is familiarly called Uul.
While the provision of abate powder will be maximized this February to prevent an increase in cases in April and May. Uul assessed that in Tarakan City there are no areas free from dengue so people must remain vigilant, against mosquitoes.
“The potential for mosquitoes to live in clean water. Cleanliness is the main thing, and the plus is 3M,” he said.
In this case, the Tarakan City Government through the Health Office will carry out optimal eradication of mosquito nests, especially the implementation of 3M plus, which includes:
1. Drain or clean places that are often used as water reservoirs such as bathtubs, water buckets, drinking water reservoirs, refrigerator water reservoirs, and others. 2. Close water storage places such as drums, jugs, water torrents, etc. 3. Reuse or recycle used goods that have the potential to become mosquito breeding grounds.
While the pluses include: 1. Sprinkle larvicide or abate powder in water reservoirs that are difficult to clean 2. Use insect repellent or apply mosquito repellent lotion on the skin to prevent mosquito bites. 3. Spray insect killers in dark corners of the house such as under beds, sofas, or behind curtains. Wear long pants and long-sleeved shirts to cover the skin.
