Children Dominate Deaths Due to DHF in East Java

Data from the East Java Health Office (Dinkes), during the period 1 to 27 January 2022, dengue fever patients reached 1,220 people. Of this number, the death rate from DHF reached 21 people or 1.7 percent.

Most of the victims East Java DHF those who died were children aged 5-14 years. The highest number of sufferers was in Bojonegoro (112 people), Nganjuk (82 people), Malang Regency (73 people), Ponorogo (64 people), Tuban (61 people).

Then, the highest number of DHF deaths were Pamekasan (3 people), Bojonegoro (2 people) and Nganjuk (2 people). This figure increased when compared to the previous year, which in January DBD in East Java recorded as many as 668 people with the number of deaths of five people.

The total number of DHF sufferers in 2021 in East Java is 6,417 people, with the number of deaths as many as 71 people (CFR = 1.1 percent).

According to Khofifah, the prevention of dengue cases can be done through the “3M Plus” Mosquito Nest Eradication (PSN) movement, which includes draining or cleaning bathtubs, flower vases, pet drinking containers and dispenser mats.

Second, tightly closing water reservoirs, and third getting rid of or recycling used goods such as plastic bottles, used cans and others.

“The ‘3M Plus’ program is coupled with efforts to eradicate larvae through the provision of larvicides, keeping larvae-eating fish, installing ovitraps. Also, avoiding mosquito bites by planting mosquito repellent trees, using mosquito nets, mosquito repellents and the like,” he said.

Not only that, the number one person in the East Java Provincial Government also suggested once every week through the One House One Jumantik Movement.

“So, we ask for community participation and empowerment by involving every family for inspection, monitoring, eradication of mosquito larvae for disease control,” said Khofifah Indar Parawansa.
