Weather, Snow | The meteorologist: This is the beginning of February

January has been a month with a lot of weather, danger warnings, storms and new records have been broken in terms of weather. This does not start in the first week of February, the meteorologist assures.

Meteorologist Eirin Walstad says that it will generally be a calm start to the week with considerably fewer and less serious danger warnings. There are also few challenges ahead, a great contrast compared to the weather that has been in large parts of January. This is also reported by the Meteorological Institute on Twitter:

Quiet in Eastern Norway

Those who live in Eastern Norway can expect some snow in the next few days, due to a low pressure coming in from Western Norway.

– No large amounts of snow are expected there, it will mostly come as a little scattered snow, says the meteorologist to Nettavisen

The temperature will remain fairly stable below zero and it will mostly be cloudy, yet there is a possibility that the sun peeks out. The meteorologist points out Wednesday as a day when the sun peeks out.

– Even though it is expected to stay for large parts of the week, Wednesday looks particularly good. Wednesday looks very promising for Eastern Norway, and then there are good opportunities to be out in the sun, Walstad says.

Quiet and cold weather in the North

In northern Norway, a number of offshore winds are expected. This wind will keep the snow showers at a distance there.

Towards Thursday, reasonably cold and quiet weather is expected. A little wind and low temperatures will feel good. It is still winter, but here it will be better than it has been in January, says Walstad

The offshore wind gives a number of waves that allow the seawater to freeze on vessels, boats and the infrastructure in the beach zone. A danger warning has been sent out about this. The meteorologist asks people traveling in these areas to be careful.

– For those who are going out in Nordland and north of Trondheimsfjorden, it may be seawater that has frozen on the piers and in the beach zone. This is good to be aware of, warns the meteorologist.

Exceptions in Western Norway

Western Norway can expect some changing temperatures. The temperatures will be on the minus side almost everywhere, but here it will vary a lot.

– Tomorrow this will turn to rain and some wind. With this comes some danger warnings on ice, due to the fact that you have low temperatures that turn into mild weather and rain.

This will affect both driving and walking conditions tomorrow. At the same time, there is also a danger warning for high water levels between Måløy and Ålesund, the Meteorological Institute reports in a Twitter message:

– A little wind is expected in the mountains, so then the precipitation that comes in from the west as rain will create snowdrifts in the mountains. It is Western Norway that is getting a little stormy now, says the meteorologist to Nettavisen.

Nevertheless, the meteorologist assures that all the danger warnings are at the yellow level, so there will be no major challenges.
