Apple has rolled out the first beta of macOS 12.3, and it’s adding some cool new features for AirPods and DualSense controllers. Universal Command also arrives, several months after its presentation at WWDC.
AirPods will be able to update via a Mac
With macOS 12.3, updating AirPods firmware will finally become possible from a Mac. Sure, AirPods work great with your iPad, MacBook, iMac, and even your Apple TV. However, the update only takes place when an iPhone or iPad is near the headphones.

As spotted by the site 9to5Mac, Headphone firmware can now be updated from a MacBook, Mac mini or iMac. However, like on iOS, this is done automatically and there is no message indicating a firmware deployment or if the update has been downloaded.
Support for DualSense adaptive triggers
Along with the beta of macOS 12.3, Apple has deployed those of iOS / iPadOS 15.4. And those betas allow apps to use the PS5’s controllers’ adaptive triggers. These can play on tension levels in certain actions or at times in the game.
In particular, they allow the transmission of the sensation of effort when pulling on the string of a bow or when using a firearm in games.
Universal Control is coming to macOS 12.3
The Universal Command function was presented last June at the WWDC conference. The feature allows you to move your cursor from one device to another, by “forcing” on the side of the screen. It’s even possible to drag and drop a file from one device to another, or use the Mac keyboard on the iPad.

Now that macOS 12.3 and iPadOS 15.4 are in beta, it will still take a few more weeks for these updates to be finalized and released to the general public, likely around March 2022.
