A total of 29 people who entered China for the Winter Olympics on Saturday tested positive for the corona virus shortly after arriving at the airport. Among them are 19 athletes or other team members.
In addition, seven infections were also found among people who were already in the ‘Olympic bubble’.
Strict security policy
A strict security policy applies at the Games in Beijing to combat the risk of corona infections as best as possible. For example, there are various bubbles and everyone involved – from athletes to journalists – is completely separated from the rest of the Chinese population.
In order to detect infections as quickly as possible, every participant within the ‘Olympic bubble’ must take a daily PCR test. Anyone who has contracted the virus will be isolated in a specially designated hotel. Those affected can only leave after two negative PCR tests at least 24 hours apart.
