Australian tennis player Ashley Barthy played American Deniel Collins on Saturday in Melbourne and became the winner of the Australian Open.
The planet’s first racket, Barthy, defeated Collins (WTA 30) in the final with 6-3, 7-6 (7: 2).
Collins had a break ball in the fifth set of the first set, but remained unused. The decisive factor was the sixth game, in which Bartrey turned her only break point into a point – 4-2, setting the point with a “dry” victory in the game – 6-3.
At the beginning of the second set, Collins did better, taking the second of two consecutive break balls in the second game, reaching 2-0, but in the next game she played two break balls herself.
When Collins used the first of two consecutive break balls in the sixth game, reaching 5-1, it looked like there would be three sets in the game.
However, the housewife celebrated the victory in the next four games and reached a tie (5-5), but later the winner of the set was determined in Taiwan. Accompanied by the support of a nasty Australian fan, Barthy won the first four games – 4: 0, a moment later celebrating the victory in Thailand with 7: 2.
The Australian is now missing out on four Grand Slam tournaments to win the US Open.
It has already been reported that Barthy beat the American Madison Kisa, who is in the 51st place in the WTA rank and was not among the tennis players, in the semifinals with the result 6-1, 6-3.
For the first time in his career, Barthy reached the finals of the Grand Slam at home.
The last time an Australian played in the Australian Open was 42 years ago when Wendy Turnboulder lost the title match. Australians, on the other hand, have not seen a home victory since 1978, when Chris O’Neill won the men’s singles title.
Meanwhile, Collins defeated the first racket of the tournament, Igu Švjontek from Poland (WTA 9th), 6-4, 6-1.
Collins is the seventh U.S. tennis player to reach the finals of the Australian Open this century. She had won 32 of 39 games since the final in July, making her debut in the top ten next week and becoming the first racket in the United States.
Collins played in the finals of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in his career, but Barthy was in the title race for the third time, winning the previous two times.
Barthy, who lost to Australia last year in the eighth final of the tournament in Adelaide, won three out of four games.
The first Grand Slam of the season – the Australian Open – will end on Sunday.
