In November and December 2021, the police unions held various protests in our country, causing considerable disruption. The center of Brussels was in turmoil for several days, access roads and motorway entrances and exits were subjected to punctual actions and Zaventem airport was not spared from blockades, resulting in delayed and missed flights. The royal couple was again presented with a flute concerto at the Te Deum.
The unions spoke out in favor of more resources, better wages and against phasing out the end-of-career scheme. The last major police reform and wage increase was in 2001, after which nothing was changed in police wages except for index adjustments. Negotiations with Federal Minister of the Interior Annelies Verlinden (CD&V) came to nothing last year.
