The latest innovation from Samsung Electronic relates to the development of a biometric bank card. Apparently, this card will be equipped with a fingerprint sensor. The latter will adopt a new, safer security system to protect transactions. According to the specifics of this one, it turns out to be interesting. An overview of its pros and cons would be helpful.
A more reliable security system, inspired by smartphones
Obviously, Samsung is not the first to offer a biometric card in the world. On the market, BNP Paribas also offers them. The biometric credit card is an even less common alternative these days.
Biometric cards work like other sound cards. To activate it, you will need to put your fingerprint on the reader. However, Samsung wants to integrate security elements into a single card. It’s about :
- A digital safe guaranteeing the protection of the fingerprint against any attempt of bad action.
- A security processor responsible for analyzing each characteristic of the fingerprint
- A fingerprint reader verifying the identity of the owner
The South Korean giant’s idea is to combine these three security elements to ensure total transaction security. He was inspired by the security modes adopted by smartphones thanks to fingerprint sensors. With this new technology, PIN codes and secret codes are becoming obsolete. As a result, interactions during a purchase would be faster and more secure. According to Samsung, this card would be able to identify artificial fingerprints.
A bank card, obviously, but not strictly
Samsung’s new S3B512C system meets security standards for bank cards. In fact, the South Korean giant is developing this biometric card for the profits of banking companies. But other areas can also benefit from this new technology advanced by the firm.
The latter is trying to offer this security system for bank cards. Nevertheless, it is of the opinion that this technology would find its place in access cards to restricted areas. This concerns:
- Identification card for students
- Biometric employee badge
- Personalized keys to be able to go to a secure building
This solution turns out to be effective and practical in appearance, but it presents a heavy handicap in the event of loss. During its presentation on January 25, 2022, Samsung did not mention a specific date for the deployment of this biometric bank card. We hope it will arrive as soon as possible.
Samsung Electronic has developed a new biometric bank card. It is equipped with a very reliable security system, combining three security elements. According to the firm, this technology would also be effective in other areas other than banking. We hope to see the direct consequences of this technology soon.
