Dozens of Santri in One Islamic Boarding School Tasikmalaya Positive DHF

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TASIKMALAYA — Dozens of students at a boarding school in Mangkubumi District, Tasikmalaya City, tested positive for dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF). The students were immediately treated by the local health center.

Head of Disease Prevention and Control, Tasikmalaya City Health Service, Asep Hendra said, there were at least 33 students who were positive for dengue fever in the pesantren. The students are said to have been returned to their respective families after being positive for DHF by the pesantren.

“The condition of the last student has all improved,” he said, Friday (1/28/2022).

Although dozens of students tested positive for dengue, the activities at the pesantren continued. Healthy students continue to carry out teaching and learning activities at the pesantren.

The head of the Sambongpari Health Center, Mangkubumi District, Ika Sulistiawati, said that her party had conducted an epidemiological investigation (PE) at the pesantren. When examined, indeed found mosquito larvae in the boarding school.

He explained that in the pesantren there were several toilets that were not used. In that place found many mosquito larvae. “Many mosquito larvae were found there,” he said.

After conducting the PE, Ika said, her party provided education to the boarding school administrators to regularly eradicate mosquito nests. Especially now that it is still in the rainy season.

Regarding the handling of students who were positive for DHF, he said, they had been returned to their respective families. Because, on average, students who are positive are not residents of Sambongpari Village.

“There is also no treatment at the puskesmas, but some have been referred to the hospital,” he said.

Ika explained that basically DHF is a disease that can be prevented easily and cheaply, by consistently cleaning the environment. However, the general public still behaves unclean. The proof is that Sambongpari Village is one of the dengue endemic areas in Tasikmalaya City.

“We always do outreach to the community, both to posyandu and schools,” he said.

Regarding the handling, the puskesmas already has the NS1 rapid test kit to detect DHF. If there are patients who complain of fever for a day or two, the puskesmas officers will do a quick test. “So it can be handled immediately,” he said.
