Electrification is also gaining more and more space in the field of military vehicles, where it is said to offer a number of advantages.

For many decades, the iconic car of the American Armed Forces was the so-called Humvee, which was a nickname derived from the official designation High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV). However, the icon of battlefields and movie screens has been replaced in recent years by the JLTV (Join Light Tactical Vehicle) developed by Oshkosh Corporation.
However, the American manufacturer of this vehicle recently boasted of its new variant, which has the letter e in the name, traditionally denoting electrification. The new eJLTV is a hybrid that could offer the US military a number of benefits.

In addition to the same performance and protection, the new eJLTV should allow, for example, quiet driving and extended silent patrols, as it is equipped with a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 30 kWh. The battery is charged when the diesel engine is running, so there is no need to recharge it externally.
The hybrid system should also reduce consumption by about 20 percent, which is not a small amount. Another advantage is the on-board generator, which is able to offer power up to 115 kW. Soldiers will be able to use the vehicle as a source of energy on combat or reconnaissance missions to power various types of weapons and equipment.

Although the company mentioned that the US military had not yet sought a similar type of vehicle, Oshkosh Defense President John Bryant said the company was able to start producing eJLTV almost immediately thanks to a team of technicians and technical capabilities. After all, the vehicle manufacturer is negotiating with the army about other contracts, which eJLTV might like to include.
In Bryant’s view, eJLTV also offers military customers an affordable way to electrify light tactical wheeled vehicles without compromising on off-road performance or above-standard protection – essential in combat operations.
