JAKARTA – Indonesia reportedly has received an invitation from an international event for the age group, namely the Toulon Tournament in France in May 2022. However, news from the Toulon Tournament’s organizing committee stated that the PSSI did not respond at all to the invitation they had given.
For the uninitiated, the Toulon Tournament is one of the first international age group events in the world. In fact, the tournament has existed since 1967 before the U-17 World Cup held by FIFA.
A number of star players have been born from participating in the event. Call it like Thierry Henry, Rui Costa, Javier Mascherano, Alan Shearer and many more. Even Witan Sulaeman and Egy Maulana Vikri have played in the Toulon Tournament.
At that time, the Indonesian national team, which was still held by Indra Sjafri, received an invitation to take part in the 2017 edition of the Toulon Tournament.
In fact, only invited teams are accepted in the Toulon Tournament, so not just any country can take part in an event that has produced many star players. In this 2022 edition, the Indonesian national team received another invitation, but as previously stated, PSSI was indifferent because it did not reply to the invitation from the Toulon Tournament committee.
This interesting fact is known from the post on the official Instagram account of the Toulen Tournament, @tournoimrevello. In its latest update, the Toulon Tournament Instagram actually only congratulates Witan and Egy who are now a team again at FK Senica.
