So what are these dreams? “Most juniors admit to aiming for world number one. But to get there, you first have to get into the top 100, which is already something beautiful. I’m going to try to climb as high as possible in the rankings, and We’ll see where it takes me. I would like to be a top 50 player one day. If not higher.”
Like all young players, he has an idol. “It is Roger Federer. Too bad he is no longer very active on the circuit. I also like a young guy like Denis Shapovalov. Or Frances Tiafoe, who enjoys the field”.
Professional players, he did not just admire them on television. He has already had the opportunity to see them “in real life”, on the biggest courts. “I went to Roland-Garros and the US Open, with my father, who was a coach of players who took part in them. I had a badge, and I could enter the venues. It was a great experience, which made me want to find myself on the field too”.
Alessio Basile is still studying in a “normal” school, and he will finish his secondary studies next June. He manages to combine his schooling and tennis well so far. He speaks perfect Dutch and French. At 17, he has already had strong experiences, playing tennis, traveling, and in his personal life.
