Wi-Fi 7 devices may come next year

MediaTek expects Wi-Fi 7-capable devices to hit the market by 2023.

MediaTek recently announced that for some time now working on the future Wi-Fi 7 standard, and has already shown the new technology to its partners and key customers. Wi-Fi 7 is, by definition, an upgrade to current Wi-Fi 6 and could bring about a 2.4-fold increase in speed.

This standard will not only be able to use 320 MHz channels and QAM as well as MRU, but will also operate in the existing 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz frequency bands.

The first Wi-Fi 7-capable devices will hit the market in 2023, however, the IEEE will only be able to authenticate the standard in 2024. Nevertheless, development is still very rapid, which can lead to either a fragmentation of supply (and home appliance uniformity); or to keep an electronic device for a maximum of a few years.
