Real Madrid were very hot against Elche on Sunday during the 22nd day of the Spanish championship.
Led 0-2, the Merengues snatched the equalizer on the wire. Among the visited, Thibaut Courtois played the whole match while Eden Hazard, also holder, was replaced (79th). Real (50 points) is still first and Elche is in 15th position (23 points).
Real largely dominated the first period but suffered a goal on the only chance of the visitors scored with a header by Luca Boyé (42nd, 0-1). Meanwhile, Karim Benzema missed the transformation of a penalty (33rd). The 39,746 spectators present at the Bernabeu were even more surprised when Pere Milla doubled Elche’s lead with a cross shot (76th, 0-2) Real managed to snatch the split point thanks to Luka Modric from the penalty spot for a hand fault by Milla (82nd, 1-2) and Eder Militao (90th + 2, 2-2).
Real remains the leader with 50 points, four lengths ahead of Sevilla FC.
Stoppage for Rennes and Strasbourg
While leading thanks to a goal from Baptiste Santamaria (19th), Rennes lost 2-1 to Clermont as part of the 22nd day of the French championship. Jeremy Doku played 70 minutes with the Bretons, who were punished by two players trained at home: Lucas Da Cunha (60th, 1-1) and Jordan Tell (73rd, 2-1). In Germany, Wolfsburg had another bad day away from Leipzig (2-0). The Wolves held on for a long time before suffering the goals of Willi Orban (76th) and Josko Gvardiol (85th). Bad deal therefore for Koen Casteels and Sebastiaan Bornauw, who played the whole match, and Dodi Lukebakio got into the game (80th). At the end of this 20th day and a catastrophic 2 out of 27, Wolfsburg finds itself 15th (21 points).
