Around 11 p.m., on the night of January 22 to 23, 2022, the Pontanézen district, in Brest (Finistère), was the scene of urban guerrilla scenes. About twenty people tried to prevent the circulation of a tram train at the Pontanézen stop, using a barricade placed in the middle of the rails, according to the company Bibus, whose traffic was interrupted. .
The users were still in the train
A vehicle from the transport company quickly intervened on the spot, in order to evacuate the users of the train, “stoned” according to a local resident. Bibus’s vehicle was then set on fire in front of the tram stop, where it was parked.
Arrived on the spot, the Brest firefighters intervened to put out the fire, supported by the Police. The individuals faced them, threatening them with fireworks mortars.
The customers of the train were evacuated by Bibus staff and taken care of in a bus, without any injuries being to be deplored.
According to a neighborhood father, “The face-to-face lasted more than an hour and a half at the tram level. I then heard movement in the streets around. »

The reaction of the mayor
At the town hall, François Cuillandre denounced these events this Sunday morning in a press release. “I would first like to express my support for the tram driver, the Bibus agents, called in as reinforcements, and the passengers who have suffered from these events. It is not acceptable that twenty individuals block a public service, which allows the inhabitants of this district and all the inhabitants of the metropolis to move freely., he wrote in his press release. I strongly denounce the facts that took place last night in the Pontanézen district, no doubt in reaction to the arrests that took place this week, which are still in the process of being judged.
