The Social Insurance Institution warns against the latest thieving practice. –
– In recent days, we have received reports from customers that they have picked up calls from the ZUS hotline number 22 560 16 00 – says the spokeswoman of the Małopolska branch Anna Szaniawska.
The victims do not suspect anything, because the correct name of the institution and the number appear on the screens of their smartphones. How is this possible? Fraudsters use special internet gateways, thanks to which they can set any phone number as the one they are calling from. This is how they impersonate the hotline number.

What is this scam leading to? For cleaning a bank account. – The caller asked in broken Polish whether the customer confirms the change of the telephone number to the Electronic Services Platform account and whether on behalf of ZUS he should inform the banks about this change – explains Szaniawska. There were also requests for a login to a bank account, if the client logs in to PUE via electronic banking, otherwise access to PUE will be blocked.

As the spokeswoman adds, when a ZUS employee contacts someone by phone, they provide their name and surname. – Provides factual information, usually related to the client’s question. In addition, these connections may also refer to a summons for a sick leave inspection or a specific client case conducted by ZUS.
