She is wide, comfortable and cuddly sweatpants. And because today – as mentioned at the beginning of the ticker – is sweatpants day, here are a few facts about it.
It was invented more than 100 years ago in – who would have thought it? – France. The first jogging pants came out in the 1920s by the Le Coq Sportif brand. It was made of jersey fabric and was intended to make sports more comfortable in cold temperatures. Jogging pants only became really popular in the 1970s. At that time, however, she was not yet socially acceptable: “Whoever wears sweatpants has lost control of his life” – the famous sentence by Karl Lagerfeld.
This view did not prevail, but thanks to the rap and hip-hop scene, sweatpants are now even part of high fashion culture. Since 2009, it has had its own public holiday: International Sweatpants Day on January 21st. And now you, dear Ticker readers, are asked: How do you feel about jogging pants?
