Lufthansa would like 40 percent stake in Italian ITA; possible agreement within a few days

The plan may be released within a few days. This would require approval from the European Commission, according to the newspaper. According to the newspaper, the parties are close to agreement on the financial cooperation. They would also like to use Rome’s Fiumicino airport as a hub for flights to Africa and parts of the United States.

ITA chairman Alfredo Altavilla had previously said he would like to become part of Lufthansa. ITA has been operational since October 15 as a successor to Alitalia, which went under after years of losses. The new airline has taken over about a quarter of Alitalia’s staff and some of its aircraft. The number of routes has also been cut considerably. Despite this, a negative operating result of 170 million euros was achieved in the first 2.5 months on a turnover of 86 million euros.

Lufthansa had stated at the launch of ITA that it was ready to discuss commercial cooperation with the Italians.

Return name Alitalia
Some of the flights may also be operated under the name Alitalia again, it was announced earlier this week known. The ITA board will make a decision on this on January 31.
