Greek police are investigating the case
Greek police are investigating why the waters of a river on the island of Crete have turned red, Kathimerini reported in its online edition.
Residents noticed yesterday that in the area of the city of Moires, Heraklion prefecture, the local river Geropotamos is red and the smell of blood wafts from its waters.

Local police have sent a patrol to the area. According to some residents, the red color of the river is due to blood that came from the municipal slaughterhouse.
