ABU DHABI, 21st January, 2022 (WAM) — The Abu Dhabi Health Services Corporation (SEHA) urges the public to save lives by donating blood.
This comes after citizens and residents were reminded that anyone who has been infected with COVID-19 can safely donate blood 10 days after testing positive if they are asymptomatic, and if symptomatic, the person can donate. blood 10 days after resolution of symptoms. Also, people who have received the COVID-19 vaccine can donate blood.
Acting Chief Operating Officer of SEHA Group, Dr. Marwan Al Kaabi, said: “Donating blood is a noble humanitarian act that is in the spirit of generosity of the UAE. A healthy person can donate blood every 56 days and there are also many surprising benefits that help to renew donor activity and strengthen their organism.
On behalf of SEHA, I would like to thank all citizens who have continued to selflessly donate blood during the pandemic to meet the needs of hospitals and patients. Through the support the blood bank receives from donors, together we will protect the health and safety of patients and have a substantial impact on their healing journey.”
Over the past year, Abu Dhabi Blood Bank Services (ADBBS), the sole provider of blood transfusion services in Abu Dhabi, has helped save the lives of thousands of patients who have received critical and emergency health.
ADBBS is committed to providing an adequate and safe supply of blood to all public and private hospitals in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, comprising more than 50 hospitals, as well as to all other emirates in the United Arab Emirates in case of critical and emergency needs.
Speaking on the importance of blood donation for patients, the Director of Abu Dhabi Blood Bank Services, Dr. Huda Al Chamsi, said, “We rely heavily on regular blood donations from the community of the United Arab Emirates to ensure that our blood banks are filled with the necessary stock to save the lives of patients who constantly need blood transfusions, especially those with thalassemia and sickle cell anemia. I want to reassure the public: safety is our top priority and all blood banks and facilities in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain or Al Dhafra are applying the necessary precautionary measures under COVID-19.”
