“Our health system has never had in its history such strong pressure as the one we have been experiencing for a few weeks, it is unprecedented so we must be careful before reopening everything”, he said.
The threat of the Omicron variant greatly complicates the healthcare system, which has been at the end of its rope for the past few weeks.
“It’s not just Omicron, it’s the ability of the healthcare system, especially hospitals, to receive patients who are infected with Omicron and there are a lot of them, but also to receive all the other patients. . Those who suffer at home and who are waiting to be treated, the surgeries, but also those inside who need to be treated”, explains Doctor Boileau
The doctor clarified on TVA that community immunity cannot be the option favored by public health since the vaccine spreads too quickly.
“Community immunity will not be enough to fight the Omicron whether here or elsewhere. The Omicron is far too contagious”, he mentions.
In addition to the pressure of the Omicron and upcoming COVID-19 variants, the unvaccinated are adding additional pressure on the system.
